H. Jane Bae is an Assistant Professor of Aerospace at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and a Susan Wu Scholar. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Caltech in 2011 and completed her Ph.D. at Stanford University in 2018. Since joining Caltech in 2021, Professor Bae has focused her research on developing a physical understanding of modeling structures related to near-wall turbulence. Her primary goal is to create high-fidelity models that reduce computational costs, enabling the simulation of high-Reynolds-number turbulent flows. These models are critical in streamlining the design process for wind farms and aircraft, as well as in predicting atmospheric flows, thereby minimizing the time and effort required for these processes. Additionally, she investigates the physical mechanisms that generate and sustain turbulence, leading to new innovative approaches in modeling. Her research interests also include the application of machine learning and information theory in turbulence modeling.
