Dr. Jane Bryan

Biography

Jane Bryan is a Professor at the University of Warwick's School of Law, where she is also the Director of Student Opportunities and Director of Student Wellbeing for undergraduate students. A National Teaching Fellow and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Jane has made significant contributions to legal education, particularly in the areas of Medical Law, Property Law, and Trusts Law. She has been instrumental in developing innovative student engagement projects and establishing peer mediation services at the university. Her research interests include the implications of name pronunciation in academic settings, which led to her successful 'Say Name' campaign focused on inclusivity. Jane's commitment to enhancing student experiences is reflected in her involvement with various committees and initiatives, including the WLS Equality and Diversity Committee. She has received multiple awards for her teaching excellence, including a Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence in 2022 and recognition as a finalist for the OUP Law Teacher of the Year Award. Jane's academic journey began with her graduation from the University of Warwick in 1991, after which she pursued a Ph.D. focused on the legal treatment of pregnant women. Beyond her academic pursuits, she has served as a solicitor specializing in criminal law and medical negligence. Her leadership roles in various initiatives have significantly impacted student research and engagement at the university.
