Biography

Dr. Jane Dimmitt Champion is a Professor Emeritus in the School of Nursing at the University of Texas at Austin. She has an extensive educational background, having earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in Adult Health Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Additionally, she holds a Master of Arts in Bilingual/Bicultural Studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio, a PhD in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center at Memphis. Dr. Champion has also completed post-graduate certifications as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Texas Tech University, as well as Clinical Nurse Specialist certifications in Psych/Mental Health and Adult Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, respectively. She has completed prestigious post-doctoral fellowships at the National Institutes of Health focusing on Minority Women's Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine focusing on STI/HIV Research. Her primary research interests include STI/HIV, substance abuse, adolescent women's health, unintended pregnancy, and interpersonal violence.
