Jane's main research interest is newborn bloodspot screening (NBS). From 2017-2020, Jane was the Principal Investigator for the NIHR HS&DR-funded study (ReSPoND) to develop co-designed interventions improving communication of positive NBS results to families. She has successfully tendered multiple projects exploring stakeholder views, incorporating next-generation sequencing in NBS for cystic fibrosis and the introduction of a severe combined immunodeficiency NBS programme in England. Jane is currently working on funding applications to continue the work developed in the ReSPoND study as well as other aspects of NBS. Her research interests include rare diseases, advances in the psychosocial aspects of genomics, and screening practices in child health. Having graduated as a children's nurse, she began her clinical career in a neonatal intensive care unit and pursued her PhD focusing on infection control in that setting. Her ongoing research in infection control has led to her co-authoring an international Cochrane review on interventions designed to improve hand hygiene compliance in healthcare settings. Jane has held numerous positions in higher education institutions such as Module Lead and Deputy Head of Department, and she has been recognized for her achievements in teaching and learning with a Senior Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy.
