Dr. Jane Corwin

Biography

Jane Corwin is a PhD student in the Max Renner lab at the Department of Chemistry at Umeå University. Her research focuses on studying assembly pathogenic viruses through structural biology and biochemistry approaches. She employs techniques such as cryo-electron microscopy and cryo-electron tomography to investigate viral components at the molecular level. Her work aims to elucidate the roles of proteins in the replicative cycle of pathogens, which is vital for understanding infections and eventually improving treatment methods. Jane's academic journey began at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where she applied biophysical approaches to characterize binding interactions that enable bacteria to regulate tryptophan levels. She holds a master's degree in structural biology from Université Grenoble Alpes in Grenoble, France, where she utilized biophysical and structural methods to study proteins crucial for the survival of trypanosomes, including the parasite responsible for African sleeping sickness.
