Biography

Jane Elliott is a Professorial Research Fellow at the International Inequalities Institute at the London School of Economics. She leads an ESRC-funded project titled 'UK Voices', which focuses on enhancing the UK data infrastructure by developing a mixed-methods resource comprising repeated cross-sectional data and detailed qualitative insights from a large and representative sample of the population. She obtained her PhD in Sociology from the University of Manchester and holds an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Social Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge. Before her tenure at LSE, she served as a Professor of Sociology at the University of Exeter from 2014 to 2017 and was previously the Chief Executive of the Economic and Social Research Council. Her experience spans a long-standing interest in the integration of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies within the social sciences. Notably, she directed the Centre for Longitudinal Studies from 2009 to 2014, overseeing the management of the British Birth Cohort Studies.
