Biography

Jane is a medical sociologist and experienced mixed methods researcher with particular expertise in qualitative methods and the evaluation of complex interventions. She has collaborated as a joint author on methodological texts focusing on focus groups. Her research interests center around the everyday experiences surrounding health and illness, including self-care and self-management, and the acquisition of health knowledge and skills, particularly among people living with cancer. Currently, her research is focused on health and well-being in cancer recovery, especially regarding personalized care and the implementation of innovations in healthcare settings. As part of the Centre for Psychosocial Research in Cancer, she supports the HORIZONS cohort study, which investigates recovery and health post-cancer treatment. Jane has led evaluations of support programs like the TrueNTH Supported Self-Management Follow-up Care Programme for men with prostate cancer. She is also leading a study on the experiences of smokers living with lung cancer and has completed several qualitative studies examining the impact of COVID-19 on individuals with cancer. Additionally, her work includes evaluations of compassionate care projects and dementia fellowship schemes.
