Dr. Jane Georges

Biography

Dr. Jane M. Georges became the fourth Dean of the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science on July 1, 2018. She joined the school in 1996, demonstrating a deep commitment to promoting excellence in nursing education. Dr. Georges has played a key leadership role in the development of major programs, including the PhD in Nursing Science, Doctor of Nursing Practice, and Master's Entry Professional Nursing programs. She has a significant research background, having served as an NIH pre-doctoral fellow at the Women's Health Center at the University of Washington and as an NIH post-doctoral fellow in psychophysiological nursing research. With an accomplished record of research publications in palliative and end-of-life care, she has authored numerous refereed journal articles and book chapters that focus on suffering and compassion. Her philosophical work has gained international recognition and has been utilized as a model for doctoral nursing programs globally. Dr. Georges holds a PhD in Nursing Science from the University of Washington, as well as BSN and MS degrees from the University of California, San Francisco. She also has a degree in Liberal Arts from Santa Clara University, which informs her scholarship within the Catholic intellectual tradition, emphasizing social justice. As Dean, she is responsible for the strategic leadership of the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, dedicated to fulfilling the vision of Envisioning 2024 and addressing health disparities for marginalized populations.
