Dr. Jane Law

Biography

Jane Law is an Associate Professor in the School of Public Health Sciences and has a joint appointment in the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo. Her academic work focuses on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis methodologies, particularly in their application to public health. She has engaged in recent research projects that utilize Bayesian spatial modeling and examine topics such as spatio-temporal epidemiology, healthy communities, and the built environment. Law has contributed to the development of web-based GIS public health planning systems and has implemented spatial methods in renewable energy and health research. Her research interests also include environmental criminology, where she has provided valuable insights into creating healthy and safe community planning strategies by investigating the relationship between offenders, offenses, and the built environment. Law has a notable educational background, having completed a BSc in Surveying and Mapping Sciences, an MSc in Land Information Systems, and a PhD in Geomatics Engineering, all of which underpin her extensive research and teaching in public health and GIS. She has reviewed for various academic journals and has been active in professional organizations related to public health and geography.
