Biography

Dr. Jane Thornton is a Canada Research Chair and Clinician Scientist specializing in long-term athlete health, female athlete health, and the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and has cross appointments in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the School of Kinesiology at Western University. Dr. Thornton completed her medical training at the University of Toronto and her family and sports medicine training at Western University, complemented by a preventive medicine elective and sports medicine training across seven countries. With a decade of experience as an elite athlete in rowing, Dr. Thornton became a World Champion in 2006 and an Olympian in 2008. In recognition of her contributions to society through sport and volunteer initiatives, she was awarded the AthletesCAN Social Responsibility Award in 2015. She is dedicated to treating athletes and active individuals of all ages and abilities, focusing on their unique health needs and promoting a healthier population through research and education.
