Biography

Jane Tyerman is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa. With over 25 years of nursing experience, she has specialized in critical care, medical-surgical, and psychiatric clinical practice. Tyerman has an extensive background in clinical simulation design and facilitation, complemented by 15 years of experience in virtual simulation game development. Her research interests focus on educational research pertaining to simulation and virtual gaming that supports the development of nursing clinical competencies. Additionally, she explores neurofeedback interventions for post-cancer cognitive impairment and fatigue, providing supportive therapy for chronic conditions, including stress, anxiety, migraines, and chronic pain. Tyerman has received the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) Award for Excellence in Nursing Education in 2019 for her innovative use of simulation in education. She teaches specialty simulation courses for various national and international nursing organizations.
