Biography

Janek Oźmin is a PhD architect, artist, and researcher whose work bridges the gap between academic research and hands-on practice. He combines diverse methods including writing, installations, and photography to explore the power of everyday domestic architecture. His work often delves into spaces that are commonly overlooked, which shape daily lives, using a unique blend of theoretical inquiry and practical experimentation to reveal the profound impact of ordinary architectural environments. His practice-based thesis titled 'GO LO GO HI' examined the spatial, material, and cultural aspects of garage penthouses, encompassing architecture, urban environments, film, and the arts. He employs diverse methodologies from installations to critical studies of masculinities and creative writing. An experienced educator, Janek has taught internationally at various architecture and arts academies and is currently instructing at KTH within the Design Studio, also participating in the Research Seminars Architecture group. He has contributed to numerous academic journals and publications in the fields of architecture and the arts and has presented his works at prestigious institutions such as ArkDes and Moderna Museet in Stockholm and the Royal Hibernian Academy Gallery in Dublin. Janek co-founded NAMAlab in 2011, an initiative focusing on urban practice in response to the post-financial crisis discourse, recognized by RIBA as a world-class endeavor.
