Janelle Joseph is an internationally recognized, award-winning storyteller and scholar committed to disseminating knowledge about racial justice, health, and sport. As the Founder and Director of the IDEAS Research Lab and Co-Founder of the Re-Creation Collective and CEWMA International Research Group, she drives research related to healthy physical activity. Dr. Joseph is devoted to helping graduate students and early career researchers flourish in community-based research using qualitative, ethnographic, and decolonial practices. Dr. Joseph’s work responds to critical questions about how new health, sport, and recreation policies can emerge to address structural barriers in movement cultures. Affiliated with the Social Justice Research Institute and the Canada-Caribbean Institute at Brock University, she also holds adjunct status at Dalhousie University and is an Associate Professor in Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto. Her research interests encompass Black Studies, Health Sciences, and Sport Management, aiming to enhance personal and community health through physical activity and storytelling.
