Dr. Janet Foster

Biography

Janet Foster is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics. She has extensive expertise in Criminology, specializing in areas such as offending, crime prevention, and policing. Her research has focused particularly on police cultures, neighborhood policing, and diversity in murder investigations. Throughout her career, Janet has been involved in various significant projects, including serving as a senior adviser on policing issues in Britain and Europe, and she played a crucial role in the evaluation of the impact of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry on policing. In addition to her academic responsibilities, she has worked closely with the Police Foundation to improve policing practices through empirical research. Janet has also contributed to policy frameworks by submitting evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee and acting as an academic adviser on important reviews such as Sir Ronnie Flanagan's Policing Review. She is a member of the Social Inequalities research cluster and has taught courses on the engagement and impact of Home Office policies. Janet's work is widely published, and she serves on editorial boards for reputable journals in her field.
