Dr. Janet Hafler

Biography

Janet Hafler is a Professor of Pediatrics at Yale University, where she serves as Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning and leads the Center for Medical Education. Her work encompasses Continuing Medical Education, Graduate Medical Education, and Undergraduate Medical Education. Hafler's primary focus is on assisting faculty, students, and residents in exploring innovative ways to promote effective learning in both classroom and clinical settings. She emphasizes the importance of creating a nurturing climate that fosters teaching and learning. Additionally, she directs the Master of Health Science-Medical Education Track Degree and conducts an active research program utilizing qualitative research methods within medical education. Over her career, she has published more than 50 book chapters and articles in clinical journals, and she regularly presents at both national and regional professional meetings. Hafler has collaborated with numerous clinicians and faculty, mentoring them in developing effective teaching methods. Her educational background includes a Master’s degree from Columbia University, and a Doctorate in Education from Harvard University.
