Biography

Janet Okoko holds a PhD in Educational Leadership from the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary. Before pursuing her PhD, she worked as an instructor at a teachers’ college and as a curriculum developer monitoring evaluation for government donor-funded education projects. She received both her Master of Education and Bachelor of Education degrees from Kenyatta University, Kenya. Her research interests primarily focus on school leadership preparation and development, addressing the unique needs of newcomers and culturally and linguistically diverse students. Janet is the principal investigator for several tri-council-funded research projects and has led studies aimed at building capacity for practitioner-oriented research among school leaders. She has published and presented her work at international conferences and is actively involved in several professional organizations and editorial boards. Janet significantly contributes to the education sector through her service and outreach initiatives, particularly concerning immigrant and refugee educational support in Saskatchewan.
