Biography

Janet Primomo joined the University of Washington Tacoma Nursing Faculty in 1992 as a founding member. Her scholarly work focuses on community/public health, environmental health, and chronic illness care. She is a member of the Tacoma Pierce County Asthma Prevention Partnership and has conducted evaluation research on multi-faceted community-based chronic disease prevention programs, including the Clean Air Kids initiative. Primomo has held leadership positions in the Washington State Nursing Association, the Psi-at-Large Chapter Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and the American Public Health Association. She earned her PhD in Nursing from the University of Washington Seattle in 1989, a Master's degree in Nursing in 1982, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Russell Sage College in 1975. She has received the University of Washington Tacoma's Distinguished Teaching Award in 1997 and the Community Engagement Award in 2013, as well as the Dr. Trudeau Award from the American Lung Association Washington for her outstanding research volunteer leadership. In 2014, she was inducted into the Washington State Nurses Association's Hall of Fame.
