Biography

Janice Ho is an Associate Professor and Associate Head of Curriculum and Planning in the Department of English Language and Literatures at the University of British Columbia. She earned a First Class Honours BA from the University of Queensland, followed by an MA and PhD from Cornell University. Janice has previously taught at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her research and teaching interests encompass twentieth- and twenty-first-century British literature and culture, including British transnational modernisms, postcolonial world Anglophone literatures, contemporary fiction, and human rights studies. Her monograph, 'Nation and Citizenship in the Twentieth-Century British Novel,' published by Cambridge University Press in 2015, investigates evolving definitions of citizenship amid significant sociopolitical events such as women's suffrage and the rise of immigration. Her scholarly work has been published across various journals and edited collections. Janice is also a co-editor of special publications and a book series focusing on the intersections of literature and politics. She is currently undertaking a new project examining the impact of mid-century welfare policies and their influences on postcolonial development.
