Janice Lawrence completed her Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and PhD in Biological Oceanography at Dalhousie University. Her PhD thesis investigated the source dynamics of algal toxins in cultured shellfish. After completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of British Columbia, she studied the role of viruses in phytoplankton ecology and received the NSERC University Faculty Award. She joined the University of New Brunswick (UNB) in 2003. Her current research focuses on the biological interactions that regulate toxin-producing cyanobacteria. Janice collaborates with researchers at the University of Bergen to study the co-evolution of viruses and hosts and co-supervises students studying virus and viroid infections in crop plants at the Fredericton Research Development Centre. In her spare time, Janice enjoys building an off-grid cabin in Wolastoq and loves outdoor adventures such as skiing, biking, hiking, paddling, and swimming.
