Dr. Janis Taube

Biography

Janis M. Taube, MD, is a prominent Professor of Dermatology at Johns Hopkins University's School of Medicine and a member of the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Her clinical expertise lies primarily in dermatopathology, where she oversees the Division of Dermatopathology. Additionally, she serves as Co-Director of both the Tumor Microenvironment Laboratory at the Bloomberg-Kimmel Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy and the Mark Foundation Center for Advanced Genomics Imaging. Dr. Taube received her MD from Tulane University and has further training in Molecular Medicine from University College London. She completed her residency in pathology at Johns Hopkins, where she was also a chief resident, and then pursued a fellowship in dermatopathology at Stanford University. Dr. Taube's research focuses on immune evasion in solid tumors, particularly how the PD-L1/PD-1 axis functions to evade immune detection. Her laboratory has made significant advancements in identifying biomarkers for patient selection in novel immunotherapy regimens. Notably, she has contributed to the development of PD-L1 immunohistochemical scoring systems that have received FDA approval. Her extensive work has led to over 180 peer-reviewed publications, with significant citations ranging around 70,000.
