Janit completed PhD in South East Asian Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London in 2011 with a scholarship from the Harvard-Yenching Institute. His PhD research investigated the 'desire modern' Siamese/Thai state in the mid-nineteenth century and its relationship with the modern environment, gender, and sexuality as reflected in Cold War Thai literature. His current research interests focus on modern and contemporary Thai literature and cultural studies, particularly Cold War literature, popular literature, and the portrayal of cross-cultural contact. He also explores gender and social cultural issues in literature, as well as food memoirs in contemporary Isan (Northeastern) literature. Janit's fascination with popular culture and narrative forms deeply influences his research and teaching in language education.
