Dr. Jann Murray Garcia

Biography

Jann Murray-Garcia is a Clinical Professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis, where she teaches in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. As a founding faculty member, she developed and directs the Anti-Racism Cultural Humility (ARC) Training Program, providing immersive experiences for nurse leaders and health system staff. She established the Interprofessional Central Valley Road Trip, allowing students and faculty to engage with the communities in California's Great Central Valley and learn about social determinants of health. Throughout her career at the School of Nursing, she has taught a year-long master’s degree leadership course and launched the UC Davis Health Interprofessional Book Club focusing on social justice themes. Murray-Garcia, a pediatrician, earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University, her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and completed her residency at Oakland Children’s Hospital, later obtaining a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests center on racial stratification, health-related decisions among youth and adults, and the implications of race in public health and clinical practice. Additionally, she produced an award-winning documentary on racial achievement gaps in schools.
