Biography

Janna Promislow is an Associate Professor at the University of Victoria's Faculty of Law, specializing in Indigenous and administrative law, Canadian public law, and legal pluralism. She holds a BA (Honours) from the University of Alberta, an LLB from the University of Victoria, and both an LLM and PhD from York University, Osgoode Hall Law School. Janna's research interests focus on the implementation of Indigenous law within modern treaties and the complexities of state-Indigenous relations. She has authored and contributed to significant administrative law textbooks and peer-reviewed articles that address topics such as treaty history, constitutional rights, and the role of administrative law within Indigenous communities. Prior to her appointment at UVic in 2020, Janna was an Associate Professor at Thompson Rivers University and has served as a visiting scholar internationally. Her extensive teaching experience spans various law schools in Canada, and her work has included policy advisory roles for government consultations with Aboriginal communities. Janna is actively involved in supervising graduate students interested in administrative law, Indigenous law research, and interdisciplinary studies.
