Dr. Jannice Friedman

Biography

Jannice Friedman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Queen's University. Her research focuses on understanding the causes and consequences of the enormous diversity found in plant reproductive strategies. She integrates techniques from quantitative population genetics, comparative biology, field biology, theory, and genome analysis mapping to comprehend ecological and evolutionary processes that produce and maintain natural variation. Jannice places particular emphasis on the adaptive significance of these strategies and the underlying genetic mechanisms that facilitate their evolution. In her teaching, she emphasizes contemporary research and its relation to broad evolutionary concepts, incorporating case studies and primary literature to foster hands-on learning. She encourages the development of scientific process skills and critical thinking abilities, enabling students to approach diverse research questions effectively.
