Biography

Trained as a general physician, Dr. Filep graduated in 1978 from Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary, obtaining an MD. Simultaneously, he pursued training in the laboratory of Dr. Géza Fejes-Tóth at Semmelweis University, focusing on mechanisms of vasopressin, prostaglandins, and kinin interactions in renal function regulation. He continued his research training through postdoctoral studies in the laboratories of Dr. Jürgen C. Frölich (Stuttgart, Germany, 1982-1984; Hanover, Germany, 1985-1987), an expert in eicosanoids, and Dr. Pierre Sirois (Sherbrooke, 1989-1992), a specialist in eicosanoid pharmacology. Since then, he has served at the Université de Montréal, first as an assistant researcher in the Department of Medicine (1993-1997), then as an associate researcher (1997-2002), and became a full professor in the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology (2003-present). Since 1992, he has also joined the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont Research Centre.
