Jao Carminati is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at Monash-Epworth Rehabilitation Research Centre, within the School of Psychological Sciences. His research focuses on understanding and supporting the functional, psychological, and cognitive rehabilitation of individuals with acquired brain injury (ABI). Jao has expertise in qualitative, co-design, and translational research. His doctoral study developed a psychometrically sound measure of cyberscam vulnerability in individuals with ABI, known as the CYBERABILITY Project, which was funded by the auDA Foundation. He led a world-first study quantitatively exploring prevalence rates and risk factors of cyberscams among individuals with ABI across various domains. His research work includes evaluating the implementation of the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS+PLUS) framework and supporting the training of neurorehabilitation clinicians in this approach. Jao coordinates a MRFF-funded study aimed at improving traumatic brain injury rehabilitation across Australia. His work is acknowledged through awards such as the Emerging Digital Health Researcher Award received in 2021. Jao routinely presents nationally and internationally at conferences focused on brain injury and rehabilitation and delivers community workshops for the disability sector.
