Biography

Jaquelin P. Dudley is a distinguished Professor and Associate Director at the LaMontagne Center for Infectious Disease at The University of Texas at Austin. She began her academic journey as a graduate student at Baylor College of Medicine from 1973 to 1978, followed by postdoctoral fellowships with Nobel laureate Harold Varmus at the University of California, San Francisco, and Dr. Rex Risser at the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, from 1980 to 1982. Dudley joined the faculty at The University of Texas at Austin in 1983, advancing to Associate Professor in 1989 and then to Professor in 1996. Her research focuses on the mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) and its role in inducing mammary carcinomas and T-cell lymphomas in mice through insertional mutagenesis. The Dudley lab has made significant discoveries regarding a novel viral protein, Rem, which is involved in the nuclear export of intron-containing viral mRNAs. The lab is also exploring gene therapy vectors for breast cancer by manipulating MMTV's genetic elements to develop safe and effective treatments. Dudley has been recognized with numerous awards for her contributions to the field, including being elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and receiving several teaching excellence awards from the College of Natural Sciences at her university.
