Biography

Jarad Zimbler is a Reader in English Global Cultures and the Director of Research at the Global Cultures Institute at King's College London. He grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, and studied for his BA at Oxford followed by an MPhil and PhD at Cambridge. He has held a Junior Research Fellowship at Wolfson College, Oxford, and completed work on a book entitled 'J. M. Coetzee Politics Style' published in 2014. He has worked at the English Department at the University of Birmingham for ten years before joining King’s College. He has also been a Scholar at the Anglo-California Foundation at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His research interests encompass poetry, drama, and fiction from the mid-twentieth century, focusing on Literatures of Africa, the African diaspora, colonialism, anti-colonialism, and literary form. Zimbler's ongoing work is supported by multiple fellowships and grants, including an ERC Consolidator Grant and a UKRI Frontier Research Grant, as he examines the interactions of literary cultures and the conditions of literary belonging in the context of decolonization.
