Biography

Jared Homola is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Maine in 2018, following a Master’s degree in Biology from the Annis Water Resources Institute at Grand Valley State University in 2013, and a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University in 2010. Homola has a diverse research background focusing on conservation genetics, particularly in relation to the management of aquatic species in the Great Lakes basin and upper Midwest. He has experience working with a variety of taxa, including fishes, birds, reptiles, amphibians, bacteria, and viruses. His research addresses ecological and evolutionary responses to environmental pressures such as climate change, habitat alteration, disease, and fishery harvest practices. Additionally, he collaborates with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and is involved in providing innovative solutions to protect fish populations using genetic markers. Prior to his appointment at MSU, he completed postdoctoral training as a National Science Foundation research fellow and served as Assistant Unit Leader with the USGS Wisconsin Cooperative Fishery Research Unit.
