Biography

Jasmin Martino is an aquatic ecologist dedicated to applying fundamental biological understanding to solve real-world sustainability challenges. Her research spans a diverse range of topics, employing chemical engineering tools for the management of finfish and octopus fisheries, food traceability, and the restoration of riverine fish passage. At UNSW, she works across the Centre for Ecosystem Science in the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences and the Water Research Laboratory. Her current research integrates fish biology with hydraulic engineering to tackle critical issues regarding barriers to freshwater fish migration. She develops and implements novel pipe fishways, known as Tube Fishway, which are adaptable and cost-effective solutions for reconnecting fish passage. Jasmin’s research includes simulated live fish experiments using full-scale lab models, alongside field deployments in Australian riverine ecosystems.
