Dr. Jason Abel

Biography

Jason Abel is a lecturer at Penn Carey Law and a partner in the Washington D.C. office of Steptoe & Johnson. He chairs the firm’s Campaign Finance Political Law Practice and is recognized by Washingtonian as one of the Best Lawyers in campaign election law. Abel has been acknowledged by Chambers USA for his expertise in the political law arena. He advises clients on the complexities of various legislative laws including the Lobbying Disclosure Act and the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and provides counsel regarding the Federal Election Campaign Act. He has significant experience in election security and administration, having served as Chief Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration under Chairman Charles E. Schumer. In this role, he was involved in multiple high-profile investigations, including those related to the firing of U.S. attorneys by the Department of Justice. Abel also played a vital role in the DISCLOSE Act and the bipartisan Military Overseas Voter Empowerment Act. With decades of experience in voter protection and voting rights, he has taken on various leadership roles, managing initiatives such as the State Voter Protection for the Mississippi Democratic Coordinated Campaign in 2008.
