Biography

Jason Bazylak brings engineering, education, and design experience to the University of Toronto. He coordinates the award-winning first-year design course, Engineering Strategies and Practice, and conducts research aimed at reducing the under-representation of women and Indigenous people in engineering. He serves as the Dean’s Advisor for Indigenous Initiatives. Professor Bazylak began his career as a manufacturing engineer in the new product introduction division of a large telecommunications manufacturer before returning to academia. He joined the University of Victoria as an engineering co-operative education coordinator and engineer-in-residence, later accepting a position at the University of Toronto as a teaching stream professor. He is heavily involved in design education and has received the Hart Teaching Innovative Professorship for his efforts to increase engagement of Indigenous students in engineering communities.
