Biography

Jason Borenstein serves as the Director of Graduate Research Ethics Programs at Georgia Institute of Technology. His academic journey is marked by significant involvement in research ethics, as he directed Georgia Tech's Responsible Conduct Research (RCR) Program since 2006 and currently acts as Program Director for the U.S. National Science Foundation. Borenstein was previously the interim Research Integrity Officer at Georgia Tech and has been an active member of the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT). He contributes to various editorial boards including the Springer journal on Science and Engineering Ethics. His research interests encompass robot and artificial intelligence ethics, engineering ethics, responsible conduct in research, and bioethics. He co-leads NSF-funded research efforts focusing on ethical dimensions in AI and has acted as Principal Investigator for transformative projects addressing ethical development among STEM students. Borenstein’s academic credentials include a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Miami and degrees in Biology and Philosophy from Emory University. He has received multiple awards for his faculty research contributions from the Ivan Allen College, affirming his commitment to ethics in technology and education.
