Biography

Jason de Koning is an Associate Professor at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, where he serves as the Graduate Program Director. His research focuses on computational statistical genomics, particularly in developing high-throughput computational approaches to analyze large-scale comparative and cancer genomic datasets. He aims to maximize the utility of these datasets through novel computational methodologies, especially in the context of population genetics and the identification of driver genes in tumor-normal samples. He has a strong background in molecular evolution and aims to predict the functional impact and clinical significance of sequence variations in human genomes. He completed his B.Sc. in Computer Science and Biology at Trent University in 1999, received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from SUNY Albany in 2007, and held a postdoctoral position at the University of Colorado Denver in Computational Genomics and Bayesian Statistics.
