Biography

Jason DeBord joined the faculty of the Department of Musical Theatre at the University of Michigan in September 2014 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2020. He has served as the music supervisor for the 2025 production of 'Once' in Seoul, South Korea, and has worked as a resident music supervisor for Broadway world tour productions. His Broadway credits include productions such as 'Shrek', 'Priscilla: Queen of the Desert', 'Rock of Ages', 'Legally Blonde', and 'Rent'. His extensive work includes new musical works, productions at Radio City Christmas Spectacular and Carnegie Hall, and the nurturing of developmental productions. In summer 2020, he served as a segment producer for St. Louis Muny’s Online Variety Hour, crafting new dance, vocal, and song arrangements, including a revised version of Lerner & Loewe’s 'Paint Your Wagon'. He has played and conducted for national tours of 'A Chorus Line', 'Rent', and 'Urinetown'. His contributions also include being an accompanist for the Vocal Music Department at the University of San Diego and teaching at various theatres and programs, such as McCarter Theatre and American Theatre Wing’s Springboard program. Additionally, DeBord was the music director for Music Academy International’s summer musical theatre intensive in Italy in 2016-2019 and collaborated with Catherine Walker in designing SMTD’s minor in Musical Theatre Composition.
