Biography

Dr. Deska is an Associate Professor of Psychology and the director of the Social Perception and Intergroup Relations Lab at Toronto Metropolitan University. He received his PhD in social psychology from Miami University and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Toronto. Dr. Deska supervises MA and PhD students and teaches courses related to social psychology and social cognition. His research focuses on investigating the impressions that people form and how these can lead to and sustain inequality. Specifically, he examines how social categories, such as race, socioeconomic status, sex, and gender, along with individual features, including facial appearance and emotional expressions, can lead to discriminatory and dehumanizing outcomes.
