Biography

Jason O. Germany is an Associate Professor and the current Chair of the Industrial Design program at the University of Washington. He has been part of the faculty since autumn 2015 and previously served as a faculty member in the Product Design program at the University of Oregon for five years. Professor Germany teaches a variety of courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs that include design studios, ID foundations, medical and health design, digital product experiences, and transportation. His work emphasizes a systems-based approach that intersects various fields, focusing on design entrepreneurship, urban computing, and digital product semantics, as well as rescue and medical device design. He has led funded research projects and actively collaborates with various departments and organizations on campus. Before his academic career, Professor Germany worked as a senior industrial designer and project lead, with experience spanning design firms in action sports, housewares, and mobile devices. His designs have garnered numerous patents and received regional, national, and international awards including ID Magazine’s Category IDEA Gold in consumer products and medical & health categories.
