Biography

Professor Jason Grebely is a clinical epidemiologist at the Kirby Institute, UNSW Sydney. He leads a research group focused on improving health outcomes for individuals who use drugs, with a particular emphasis on hepatitis C infection. As the head of the Hepatitis C Drug Use Group within the Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program, his research includes the evaluation of novel strategies, including diagnostic testing and models of care, to enhance linkage to testing and treatment for hepatitis C. His work also involves clinical trials and cohort studies that assess hepatitis C treatment and reinfection among people who inject drugs. Grebely's research not only explores the harms related to drug use but also seeks to implement interventions aimed at addressing these harms. He conducts systematic reviews on the global epidemiology of injecting drug use and infectious diseases and synthesizes evidence from cohort studies and clinical trials. His research incorporates social sciences to understand the barriers and facilitators affecting the uptake of new interventions from the perspectives of the community, practitioners, and policymakers. Additionally, Grebely is the President of the International Network on Health and Hepatitis Substance Users (INHSU).
