Biography

Jason Hanna is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University. He focuses on cancer cell molecular biology, specifically studying microRNAs in angiosarcoma development and metastasis. His lab investigates the roles of microRNAs in aggressive vascular sarcomas and their interactions with blood and lymphatic endothelial cells that contribute to the extremely poor prognosis for patients. His recent research has identified DICER1 microRNAs as critical tumor suppressors. He aims to generate additional tumor models to investigate genes that are known to be altered in patients, using genetic models to study tumor initiation, progression, and metastasis in vivo. Dr. Hanna's research has three core aims: to discover the genetic drivers and critical microRNAs involved in angiosarcoma development, to identify key mediators of angiosarcoma metastasis, and to design and evaluate precision therapeutics to benefit patients suffering from this devastating yet understudied disease.
