Biography

Jason M. Miller, MD, PhD, is a prominent figure in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Michigan. He completed his undergraduate studies in biology at Stanford University before embarking on a distinguished medical career. He obtained both his MD and PhD from the University of California, San Francisco, where he focused on developing neuronal culture models for Huntington's disease. Following his medical internship at Bay Area Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, he was awarded the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center's Pre-Residency Research Fellowship, enabling him to establish an independent research program. After completing his residency and subsequent medical retina fellowship at the Kellogg Eye Center, he joined the faculty in 2021. Dr. Miller's research is centered on age-related macular degeneration (AMD), particularly utilizing human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived retinal pigment epithelium models to investigate the mechanisms behind dry AMD and identify therapeutic interventions. His work is critical as dry AMD affects over 80% of AMD patients, yet lacks proven treatment options. Dr. Miller actively mentors residents and students in his lab, fostering a collaborative research environment. Outside of his professional commitments, he enjoys squash and engaging in discussions on foreign policy.
