Biography

Baritone Jason Nedecky teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Lyric Diction, Italian Vocal Repertoire, and Advanced Italian Diction, acting as the diction coach for the opera division. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Music degree along with an Opera Diploma from the University of Toronto. Nedecky has also served as an instructor for French diction repertoire courses at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. His professional development includes studies in Baden bei Wien, Austria, participation in the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme in Aldeburgh, England, and the L’Académie Musicale de Villecroze in France, as well as the Banff Centre's Young Artist Program in Ottawa. Nedecky has performed as a soloist in Canadian concert series and with opera companies, contributing his voice to recordings for the Aradia Ensemble on the NAXOS label. In 2005, he joined the Canadian Opera Company chorus and performed covered comprimario roles for the company. He possesses specialized expertise in lyric diction and has worked as a language coach for various organizations, including the Canadian Opera Company, Luminato Festival, Société-Radio-Canada, Toronto Children’s Chorus, Opera NUOVA in Edmonton, and Mountain View Summer Festival in Calgary. He is an English diction specialist and the author of 'French Lyric Diction: Singer’s Guide,' published by Oxford University Press.
