Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Jason Potas. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Jason Potas is a neuroscientist with a focus on somatosensory systems, including touch and proprioception, as well as pain and motor systems. He received his PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia, and undertook post-doctoral studies in neural injury before returning to academia at the Australian National University. Currently, he is a senior lecturer at the University of New South Wales in neuroanatomy, where he leads an independent research team dedicated to understanding how somatosensory information is transformed by the nervous system. His laboratory undertakes projects that combine neuroscience, neurotrauma, and machine learning with biomedical engineering to restore, mimic, and/or augment sensorimotor systems. His work aims to develop diagnostic devices and neural prosthetics, including sensory motor bionics, utilizing advanced nanotechnology for targeted drug and gene delivery to the spinal cord. Additionally, Potas's research interests span basic and applied neuroscience, including psychophysical correlations with preclinical models to enhance human sensory processing especially in relation to neuropathy due to chemotherapy.
