Dr. Jason Salavon

Biography

Using software processes of his own design, Jason Salavon generates and reconfigures masses of communal material to present new perspectives on the familiar. His projects unearth unexpected patterns exploring the relationship between part and whole, individual and group. Reflecting a natural attraction to popular culture and day-to-day life, his work regularly incorporates common references as source material. The final compositions are exhibited as art objects, photographic prints, and video installations, existing within a real-time software context. Salavon has exhibited his work in museums and galleries worldwide, with reviews of his exhibitions appearing in prominent publications such as Artforum, Art America, and The Wall Street Journal. His artwork is included in numerous prominent public and private collections. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Chicago, where he also collaborates with the Computation Institute. With numerous years of experience as an artist and programmer in the video game industry, his work bridges the gap between art and technology.
