Biography

Jason Shaw is an Associate Professor in the Linguistics department at Yale University, where he also serves as the Director of the Phonetics Laboratory. He received his PhD in Linguistics from New York University in 2010. His research focuses on phonological form and structures, examining natural variation in speech and how it is interpreted by listeners. Shaw's approach combines language description with formal computational models, as well as experimental methods to capture the temporal unfolding of speech planning, production, and perception. His experimental methodologies include eye-tracking for speech perception and using Electromagnetic Articulography (EMA) and ultrasound for speech production experiments. He joined Yale University in 2016 and has previously received research support from the Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Research Award, and he has also been a faculty member at Western Sydney University, supported by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
