Dr. Jason Twamley

Biography

Professor Jason Twamley is a leading researcher in theoretical physics and quantum science and technology, with a particular emphasis on hybrid quantum systems. His work integrates different types of quantum systems to achieve overall functionality, focusing on developing quantum sensors that utilize quantum effects to provide precise measurements in various settings, such as magnetometers and inertial sensors. Trained originally in Ireland, he has pioneered European Union projects centered on fullerene and diamond-based quantum technologies. Since 2005, Professor Twamley has been associated with Macquarie University, where he has developed his expertise in superconducting, diamond, and nanomechanical quantum technologies. Alongside Associate Professor Gavin Brennen, he has been instrumental in the emergence of quantum magneto-mechanics—a novel field that leverages magnetic fields to manipulate quantum objects. He maintains strong research collaborations with diamond research groups in Germany and China, furthering the advancement of quantum technology.
