Biography

Jason Young is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Technology & Social Change Group (TASCHA) at the University of Washington's Information School. His work explores the intersection of technology, knowledge systems, and power, with a particular interest in understanding how technological practices, including the use of artificial intelligence, can influence disinformation and shape the visibility of marginalized knowledge systems. His research examines how information and communication technologies are reshaping the colonial hierarchies that exist between Indigenous and Western scientific knowledge systems, focusing on the socio-cultural dynamics that produce vulnerabilities to misinformation. Young's projects emphasize community-based and participatory approaches, drawing on a wide range of postcolonial, feminist, and critical theories. In addition to his research, he leads TASCHA, a multidisciplinary center dedicated to investigating the relationship between digital technologies and society, with an emphasis on community engagement. His research interests include digital knowledge politics, nature-society relationships, Indigenous connectivity, and educational resources to support Indigenous well-being in various communities. He is currently looking to admit PhD students for the 2025-2026 cohort, particularly those interested in researching digital knowledge politics.
