Biography

Professor Zhang received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 1999. His PhD research focused on the development and modeling design of photocatalytic reactor systems for water detoxification and disinfection. After graduation, he joined BC Research Inc. as a lead research engineer, where he worked on scaling up microwave-assisted processes. He then took a post at the University of Alberta as a research associate, where he was involved in teaching and conducting research related to petroleum processing. In July 2003, he joined the University of Ottawa as a professor. His research interests prominently include biochemical engineering, pollution control, energy from biomass, and petroleum processing. In 2020, he was nominated Coordinator for Asian Partnerships, leveraging his extensive knowledge of Asian countries.
