Biography

Jasper Eshuis is a Full Professor at the Department of Public Administration and Sociology at Erasmus University Rotterdam. His main areas of expertise are governance, stakeholder participation, governance emotions and affects, and public branding marketing. He leads the chair of Affective Governance, which explores the emotional relationship between government and citizens, as well as businesses. His research aims to contribute to the development of an emotionally intelligent government. Eshuis has published over 30 articles in journals such as Public Administration Review, Public Administration, Public Management Review, Urban Studies, and the Journal of Place Management Development. He has a keen interest in the valorisation and societal impact of research, and is an expert in action research, conducting commissioned projects for public organizations including ministries, municipalities, and regional authorities. Eshuis regularly provides advice and delivers masterclasses and lectures to professionals within the public sector. He has served on the editorial advisory boards for the aforementioned journals and has held visiting academic positions at the University of California, Berkeley, and Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. In addition to his research, he is a committed educator, acting as a lecturer and educational manager. He founded the interdisciplinary Honours program ‘Inclusive Energy Transition’ and teaches courses including Politics and Media and Political Philosophy and Democracy.
