Biography

Professor Jassmine Girgis joined the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary in 2008. She graduated as a Silver Medalist from Western Law in 2004 and served as a Law Clerk for the Honourable Mr. Justice J. Edgar Sexton at the Federal Court of Appeal in 2005. Professor Girgis was awarded the Paul Martin Scholarship to undertake graduate work at the University of Cambridge, graduating in 2006. Her research focuses on director and officer liability, corporate restructuring law, and contract law, examining the intersection of law, economics, and public interest. She has published extensively in Canadian and international law journals and has presented her research to legal academics, judges, and lawyers in Canada and internationally. Among her notable works is a comparative report on insolvency litigation funding in Canada. Professor Girgis has received fellowships and grants, including from Stikeman Elliott LLP and the Canadian Insolvency Foundation, to research various aspects of corporate law and to serve on several editorial boards and committees related to insolvency law. In addition to her academic duties, she actively engages in blogging and public commentary on relevant legal issues.
