Biography

Jatin Nathwani is a Professor and the Ontario Research Chair in Public Policy and Sustainable Energy at the University of Waterloo, where he has been a faculty member since 2007. He is the founding Executive Director of the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE). Nathwani is cross-appointed in the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Environment, specifically in the Department of Management Sciences and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research focuses on energy policy developments and entrepreneurial business innovations in sustainable energy solutions. He works on the Global Change Initiative aimed at enabling universal access to affordable energy and involves leading collaborative efforts among top universities to innovate energy transitions. Nathwani’s contributions to national and global strategic planning initiatives emphasize sustainability, smart energy networks, and risk management in energy systems. He serves on various boards, including the Ontario Smart Grid Forum and the Ontario Centre of Excellence Council. He has published over 100 articles and authored seven books relating to energy risk management.
